Forest Forge Theatre is delighted to announce it has received a £73,000 grant from Arts Council England. This significant funding will support the company’s next 12 months of growth, anchored in our mission to create and share “Theatre Forged in the Forest.”

The grant will enable Forest Forge to strengthen our three core areas of touring theatre, participation and artist development.

For our touring theatre, we’ll commission a new writer to create a play inspired by the myths and folklore of the New Forest, bringing local legends to life for audiences locally and nationally.

In our participation programmes, we’ll expand our Elevate initiative; an innovative work experience programme for young people aged 14 – 18; helping more young people explore theatre-making as a viable career path.

And for artist development, we’ll be growing our Furnace network of theatre-makers, currently 70 strong, and introducing new scratch nights and funded rehearsal space to nurture up-and-coming talent.

James Swyer, one of our trustees and a local councillor in Ringwood, added: “As a Ringwood town councillor, I’m proud to see Forest Forge deepening its roots right here in our town. This funding not only  underscores how committed the company to both providing an exceptional standard of arts in for local community, but also to sharing stories that put the forest on the national stage.”

“With this funding, we can amplify the unique stories and voices of our area,” said Kealy Whenray, Executive Director of Forest Forge Theatre Company. “We’re excited to expand our programmes so that even more community members can experience the magic of theatre right here at home, and so that we can share our forest-forged stories with the rest of the country.”
